dedicated intensive care, whilst also promoting physical
wellbeing and happiness.

Slow-stream Rehabilitation

St Matthews Healthcare provides specialist care for adults with complex and enduring mental illness and physical health needs. Our large multi-disciplinary team delivers compassionate care to residents with conditions including schizophrenia, bi-polar affective disorder and personality disorder.

Our slow stream (long-stay rehabilitation) approach is effective for clients who may be admitted under sections of the Mental Health Act and whose movement may be restricted by the Ministry of Justice or other legal bodies.

We take a collaborative approach to developing each individual’s care programme, encouraging service-users to identify their own needs and set their own aspirations. People’s particular interests, likes and dislikes are woven into their treatment regime.

Psychological interventions are combined with a variety of activities specifically tailored to each individual’s needs. On-site activities include cooking household living skills, budgeting, as well as leisure and craft activities.

Our multi-disciplinary team includes a responsible clinician with a history in forensic work, experienced nurses, occupational therapists and social workers.

Our high staffing levels mean that service-users can be accompanied to safely enjoy trips into Northampton and can benefit from local amenities such as the swimming baths and nearby parks.

We involve patients in their own risk assessments and in some cases this reduces the degree of restriction that may need to be applied. We regularly host events concerned with treatment and relapse prevention for mental health professionals and translate this expertise in to the care we offer.
