They use a range of direct and indirect psychological, pharmacological, occupational and nursing interventions to positively effect emotions and behaviours, and to equip individuals with the tools and skills to reenable them.
Set in rolling countryside, Broomhill in Northamptonshire is a former Victorian manor house that has been extensively extended and refurbished to create a bright hospital for adults with chronic mental ill-health.
Collaborative MDT Acute Mental Health Care
The interdisciplinary work leads to a comprehensive assessment of mental health needs and risk assessment ensuring appropriate treatment is initiated in a safe and therapeutic environment. This informs a development of a discharge care plan in the early stage of admission.
Patients have a collaboratively developed care plans based on the psychological 5P model (presenting, predisposing, perpetuating, precipitating and protective factors). This includes what their goals, outcomes and early warning signs are, and the support they need for recovery. As they approach discharge, we also co-produce a Wellness Recovery Action Plan with the patient.
Psychological and therapeutic interventions are wide ranging and may include Cognitive, Systemic, Narrative and Psychodynamic therapies. Sessions last 20 to 60 minutes, depending on individual needs and preferences and can either be individual or group sessions. Sessions are used to develop formulations and provide short-term, goal focused interventions. Family members are invited to assessments or therapeutic work where appropriate, and if the patient agrees.
