Our Care Types

St Matthews Healthcare provides professional, personalised and
dedicated intensive care, whilst also promoting physical
wellbeing and happiness.

Day Care

St Matthews Healthcare aims to treat the whole person, so relaxation, therapeutic activities and independent living skills are built into our care programmes.

Our Day Care Centre, which is adjacent to the St Matthews Hospital, provides a relaxing environment for a range of therapeutic activities designed to support people with complex mental health needs, as well as those with dementia and Huntington’s.

Our carefully designed day care programmes are underpinned by occupational therapy and incorporate cooking, gardening, art and music, as well as quizzes and discussion groups, allowing patients to build their skills, boost their self-confidence and socialise.

More psychologically-based programmes focus on anger management, building self-esteem and helping service-users to manage their health more effectively on their own.

Service users’ are encouraged to pursue their own interests and to express their own identity through the group activity sessions. People can also work on individual activities tailored to their own needs, preferences and abilities.

The Day Centre hosts a monthly car boot sale which is popular with many of our residents and which reflects our aim of gradually integrating service-users with the local community.

The facility is also used by the local Huntington’s Relatives and Carers Group, Age Concern and dementia support groups whose missions chime with our own.

The service is mainly used by service users from the Nursing Homes and patients from our Hospital sites, but non-residential day visitors are able to access the services via the Referral route.

Referrals can be made by family members as well as by the NHS Health and Social Care Teams, Community Mental Health Teams and Clinical Nurse Specialist Teams for Younger People with Dementia.

Visit the Referrals section for more information.
