At SMHC we are always proud to celebrate the many amazing women within our organisation while also acknowledging that there is more that we can do to bridge the equality and inclusivity gap further.
At SMHC our awesome, talented women inspire and make a difference every day. Their strength, care and resilience underpin our success. We salute them.
Women make up 60% of the SMHC workforce and 62% of our senior management team. While 2 of our 7 board members are women (Gender Pay Gap Report 2021/22).
International Women’s Day (IWD) on the 8 March is a wonderful opportunity for us to recognise the achievements of women and the progress made in terms of gender equality. However, it is also a reminder of what still needs to be done for women worldwide before they can all enjoy an environment where equality, fairness and gender inclusivity is the norm.
United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres, outlining priorities for 2023 to the General Assembly said: “Gender equality is both a fundamental human right, and a solution to some of our greatest global challenges. But half of humanity is held back by the most widespread human rights abuse of our time…” We agree with this statement and advocate for change.
So, this IWD, no matter your gender, let us stand together to challenge gender stereotypes, call out discrimination, acknowledge male bias, and seek out inclusion.
