We were delighted to successfully launch our Act Against Racism initiative this week in the marquee at Broomhill hospital. Thank you to everybody who joined us especially Dr Lade Smith CBE, President, RCPsych for her engaging keynote address entitled ‘Tackling Racism in the Workplace’.
We introduced our team of Act Against Racism Champions and shared our phase 1 plans as we embark on this important journey to eradicate racism at SMHC so that our staff feels safe, respected, valued, and treated with dignity. Dr Shahid Latif hosted an insightful expert panel discussion with Dr Amrit Sachar, Liaison psychiatry consultant Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust & West, London NHS Trust, Dr Lade Smith CBE, President, RCPsych, Ananta Dave, Chief Medical Officer, Black Country Integrated Care Board, Dr Hasanen Al-Taiar Consultant Psychiatrist, Itai Matumbike, Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and Andy Smith, FTSU Guardian.
Dr Malik, CEO, ended by reaffirming SMHC’s commitment to tackling racism at SMHC using the Royal College framework. Thank you to everybody who came together to make the event such a success.
